If you’ve worked in theatre, you know the feeling. The 14-hour tech days. The two-show Saturdays. The cast potluck dinners held together by someone’s slow cooker and sheer willpower. Theatre has never been about the money. It’s about the people. The ones who show up early, stay late, and pour everything they have into making something beautiful for a room full of strangers.
And yet, for a community this passionate, this dedicated, this fiercely creative… there’s almost nothing out there made specifically for us. Not marketed at us. Not slapped with a theatre pun and sold to the general public. Actually, truly for us. Built by people who’ve stood in the wings, who’ve called ‘places,’ who’ve ugly-cried during a final dress.
We started Ghostlight Coffee because we wanted this community to feel seen. Not as a niche demographic. Not as a novelty audience. As a family that deserves a brand that speaks its language, knows its world, and gives back to the people who raised it.
Because the theatre community takes care of its own. And so do we.
Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS was born out of the theatre community’s response to the AIDS crisis. That origin matters, and that work continues. But over nearly four decades, BCEFA has grown into something larger: a lifeline for the entire performing arts community and the people it touches.
In 2025 alone, BCEFA awarded a record $18.3 million in grants. That money funded doctor visits, mental health support, nutritious meals, emergency housing, and lifesaving medication for people in all 50 states. It supported food pantries, meal delivery programs, and emergency relief when federal funding fell short. It provided a safety net for performers, stage managers, musicians, and technicians who needed a hand during the hardest moments of their lives.
This is what the theatre community does. When someone needs help, we pass the red bucket and we show up. BCEFA is the organized, tireless, year-round version of that instinct.
That’s why we chose them. Not because of a single cause. Because of what they represent: a community that refuses to leave anyone behind.
This isn’t a limited campaign or a seasonal promotion. It’s how Ghostlight operates. When you buy coffee from us, you’re joining a community that has spent nearly four decades proving that what we do together makes a difference.
Broadway gets the spotlight. But theatre lives everywhere. In the community playhouse running on volunteer hours and donated paint. In the regional company paying artists just enough to keep them from leaving the industry. In the black box theatre where a 50-seat house feels like Madison Square Garden on opening night.
These are the stages where most of us fell in love with this art form. They’re also the ones most likely to lose funding, close their doors, or watch their best people leave for a paycheck that actually covers rent.
Ghostlight Coffee was built to support this entire ecosystem. Not just the big stages. The small ones. The scrappy ones. The ones that keep theatre alive in towns where a Broadway tour might never visit.
As we grow, so does our ability to give back at the local level. That means partnering with regional theatres, supporting community programs, and finding new ways to invest in the working artists who are the backbone of this industry. We’re not waiting to be a big company before we start. We’re building it into the foundation now.
